Green Parrot Coffee

First Congregational Church of Downers Grove serves fairly traded and Fair Trade Certified coffee at our church service coffee hours on Sunday mornings and for other functions at our church. In addition to serving fairly traded and Fair Trade Certified coffee in our church, we also sell it in one pound packages to our church members and friends at a price of $8.00 per pound. We currently have several families that regularly purchase Green Parrot Coffee but we could always use more customers.

The coffee that we sell comes from the mountain village of Rio Blanco and roasted and packaged in Pinelejo, both located in Northern Honduras. The coffee is high quality and is grown in the mountainous area of Honduras near the border of Guatemala. It is roasted and packaged by Green Parrot Coffee.

Green Parrot Coffee is distributed in the United States through a relationship with a missionary organization called Fellowman International. Fellowman International also runs a full service medical center, a dental clinic, a trade store and an agricultural project in the village of Buenos Aires. Through this arrangement at least $3.00 of every sale goes toward the mission projects. In a sense the sales of the coffee not only provides employment for about 30 coffee workers it helps to subsidize the medical services in this very poor community.
