Below are links to some "friends" of First Congregational United Church of Christ as well as other links that may be of interest to our members.
Family Life Preschool
Family Life Preschool, the oldest and longest running church preschool in Downers Grove, is located in our church building. It is a well established and thriving program consisting of a preschool and day care facility and full day kindergarten, all with a strong parental involvement.
Two Way Street Coffee House
For more than 35 years the Two Way Street Coffee House has featured live folk and acoustic musical entertainment every Friday night between 8:15 and about 10:30. Occasionally, they also host special concerts, and an occasional Old Time Dance Party. The Two Way Street Coffee House is located in the lower level of First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Walk-In Ministry of Hope
The Walk-In Ministry of Hope provides an entry point to essentially all of the physical and emotional social services that are available for those less fortunate members of our community who need immediate assistance and help in finding continuing assistance. The guiding theme of the organization is to assess, in a caring and compassionate manner, the immediate needs of each client and to meet those immediate needs using the limited funds and resources of the Ministry.
Green Parrot Coffee
First Congregational Church of Downers Grove serves fairly traded and Fair Trade Certified coffee at our church service coffee hours on Sunday mornings and for other functions at our church. In addition to serving fairly traded and Fair Trade Certified coffee in our church, we also sell it in one pound packages to our church members and friends. Find out more.
Outdoor Ministries
The Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ is blessed to have two outdoor ministry sites at Tower Hill Camp in Sawyer, Michigan and Pilgrim Park Camp near Princeton, Illinois. Both Tower Hill and Pilgrim Park are open through the year in order to serve the needs of individuals, families, and churches of the Illinois Conference as well as the individuals, families and groups in the surrounding areas.
